Wrestlespective's 9/1 Power Poll: RED BELLY Is No. 1!

Barrett Slamming His Way to #1

Welcome to yet another edition of the Wrestlespective Power Poll, a poll ranking wrestlers on a weekly basis based on how awesomely they performed or were portrayed on a Tuesday-to-Monday cycle. It is voted by a who's-who of wrestling bloggers, including my blogging Bromar Garciaparra, PizzaBodySlam. I will list the top ten, and then post and comment on my ballot. Here goes:

1. Wade Barrett (Last week: 10)
2. Kane (4)
3. Alberto del Rio (7)
4. CM Punk (NR)
5. John Cena (1)
6. Randy Orton (2)
7. The Miz (5)
8. Undertaker (NR)
9. Sheamus (3)
10. Tyler Black (NR)

Not surprising in the least, and no sucky TNA guys this week. GOOD JOB! (Although I did include a TNA act on my list, but they didn't suck this past week). Here's my ballot though, which again, differed quite a bit from the conglomerated list at large:

1. Frightmare - C'mon, Chikara ran an event this past weekend and you thought I wasn't going to give the big winner of the weekend the top spot? Tsk tsk. Frightmare gets the duke not only for winning the biggest singles event on the Chikara calendar, but he did so defeating a BDK member in the biggest defeat levied to the villainous supergroup to date. Plus, he's pretty awesome, which is a scientific fact.

2. Alberto del Rio - I see the hype now, and it's glorious. If del Rio is not a World Champion within a year, I'm calling shenanigans. He was awesome on Smackdown and even moreso on RAW, obliviously coming to the ring during the Jack Swagger/Evan Bourne match in an absurd display of pomposity and thus awesomeness (since pomposity is good in wrestling).

3. CM Punk - His promo Monday night was maybe the best thing all night on a mediocre RAW. The only reason he's not #2 is because del Rio had a stronger Smackdown without too much of a difference on RAW, whereas Punk's appearance on SD was good, but limited in exposure.

4. Wade Barrett - You don't orchestrate laying out the Undertaker and pin Randy Orton clean without getting a high spot on my ballot, unless you look sloppy doing it. Barrett did not look sloppy doing it, obviously.

5. Kaval - Winning that trivia challenge has to count for something, plus, he was the best in-ring worker on Monday night. I have a feeling he'll be on my ballot next week too, seeing as he won NXT last night (more on that after I watch my DVR).

6. Motor City Machine Guns - The Guns get props for wrestling in the highest-profile good match all week, their epic spotfest against the Young Bucks/Generation Me on Impact. It was a bright spot on an otherwise dull show. The Guns have done a great job reeling in their sloppy and masturbational tendencies and are treading the line between acrobat and spot monkey very well. A strong contender for Tag Team of the Year at this point.

7. Kane - Kane again was all over the place this week, making the best of a terrible angle. It's hard to hold the writers' shittiness against him when he's making the best of a bad situation.

8. Justin Gabriel - He scored the death blow on Taker with his 450 and then, he pinned John Cena clean. Again, he pinned John Cena clean. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. For an Internet public that has clamored for Cena to eat a clean pinfall, and for a voting panel that has been overrating Cena for the last couple of weeks, this is the most egregious omission from the top 10.

9. Kofi Kingston - While his ring work continues to be on the sloppy side, he actually reined it in a bit while in the ring with Dolph Ziggler. Yeah, Ziggler carried him a bit, but hey, he can't control what Kofi does, so I have to give Kofi some props. I have to give him some points for the way he sold winning his match via countout afterwards. It really did a lot to advance the storyline.

10. William Regal - He rounds out my ballot this week for his match with Goldust, specifically that Knee Trembler he threw out, which was the stiffest I've seen since he started using the move. Besides, even MC Big Willy R deserves some love for what he does best every once in awhile, doesn't he?
