TNA is offering to promote a steel cage match between disgruntled Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson (nee Ochocinco) and his coach, 52-year old Marvin Lewis in response to a Johnson tweet where he offered out his coach in such a match. All I have to say is... seriously? Again, no one is going to argue that the short term attention boost on the product will be nice for the time being, but again, this is like putting a band-aid on a sliced jugular. It does nothing to solve the problems TNA has, and that's flagging house show attendance, a ratings slide that sees fewer eyes on the product as the show ends than it does when it begins, putrid PPV buyrates and long term indifference towards the product.
That doesn't even speak to the fact that they're just throwing this offer out there on their website like pathetic attention whores who think that this is a serious offer. Even if Johnson is unstable enough to actually want to wrestle in a steel cage match (and given the impending lockout hanging over the NFL, there'd be a lot less restriction on him to do this kind of thing), what makes anyone think that Lewis would entertain the idea? It's just pathetic.
But then again, I expect nothing less from them.
