Today Would Have Been Dusty Rhodes' 70th Birthday

Miss you, big man

Dusty Rhodes, America's second greatest orator ever behind Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the greatest wrestling babyface in history, would have turned 70 today. Rhodes' passing earlier this year sent shockwaves through the wrestling world, and to be honest, I doubt anyone has completely gotten over it. His presence is still felt in NXT, where he was a coach, administrator, and mentor. It's certainly still felt among his family. And fans have certainly not forgotten the American Dream.

Rhodes brought out the best in most of his peers and pupils, and even now, in the wake of his passing, he continues to inspire. The Dusty Classic produced an intrepid effort from its participants. The written-word tributes, whether they be found here or elsewhere like Ian Williams' piece at Vice Sports remain evergreen. And even now, his legacy will be carried on by several wrestlers he touched directly or indirectly. Happy birthday, Big Dust, wherever you are in the great beyond. You're missed beyond any measurable capacity the human mind could imagine.
