Six Stars at the Tokyo Dome

Dave Meltzer has made it to Baseball Twitter

Dave Meltzer's star rankings have always been a source of consternation for wrestling fans, especially recently. Folks who are rankled at his preferences like to point out that he's "co-opted" by New Japan Pro Wrestling because he always gives their matches higher ratings on average than WWE. While it's annoying to deal with people who miss the point completely, it does provide excellent fodder for jokes, specifically for Meltzer's steadfast belief that matches at the Tokyo Dome, the biggest venue for wrestling in Japan, just mean more.
It's all well and good for wrestling fans to poke fun at wrestling's stodgy arch-journalist. But what happens when a baseball team gets in on the action, well, that's where it gets a bit weird. To wit, the Oakland A's and the Seattle Mariners are opening the 2019 Major League Baseball season at the Tokyo Dome for a couple of games, and Oakland third baseman Matt Chapman made a stellar defensive play on a bunt. So, the social media intern running the A's' account, who clearly is a wrestling fan, seized the opportunity.

Now, in the spirit of honesty, that play by Chapman was pretty damn sweet. But the fact that now, wrestling shitposting is part of a baseball team's DNA is the real story here. The bonus here is that the A's are one of the two baseball teams playing in Meltzer's home area. He's in San Jose, a 45 minute drive south of the East Bay metropolis, a cherry on top of the sundae.
