Weekend Wrap-Up: EVOLVE? Not in the Rain, You Don't

Chris Hero- EVOLVE ran its second show on Saturday in Rahway. Much like TNA's Monday Night experiment, the second show was less attended than the first one; they were lucky to break the 100 mark. Unlike TNA, EVOLVE has a legitimate excuse; it was raining like a sumbitch in Central Jersey on Saturday. The torrential rain and driving winds kept people away from the event en masse, which is a shame, because from all reports, they missed a good show. Highlights included the main event of Chris Hero vs. Ikuto Hidaka, the Chikara four-way tag and an early MOTY candidate featuring Bobby Fish and Claudio Castagnoli.

- Pro Wrestling RESPECT also ran its second show yesterday, and again, it was well-received. The ROH Academy-ites took over the Burlington National Guard Armory again, and the match of the night was said to be the main event between Delirious and Right Leg Ridge. I have to check out one of their shows one of these days. Always love to be on the ground floor to see new stars before they become huge, even on the indie stage.

- The newest WWE HOF inductee was named this weekend and it's none other than... Bob Uecker? Yep, it'll be Bob Uecker. Uecker is a former minor league catcher and Milwaukee Brewers announcer, but he's most famous for his work in the entertainment arena as an actor, both in the show Mr. Belvedere and in the best baseball movie of all-time, Major League. Uecker is presumably going into the WWE Hall for his appearances at WrestleManias III and IV. Again, if the WWE Hall were a real HOF, then I'd get up in arms, but it's not, and hey, if Pete Rose is in, then why not Uecker? He'll at least be funny at his induction.

- The WWE ran a house show in San Francisco this weekend. This is notable because Chris Jericho got pelted with a whole bunch of stuff, including but not limited to batteries, ice and beer. It left a welt on him. Yikes. I'm guessing that it's still real to San Francisco, eh?

- The 2009 A1W 100 will be begun to be unveiled today. What's the A1W 100, you ask? Well, it's a list of the best wrestlers in the world based on their in-ring work as voted by the good citizens of the A1Wrestling.com boards. It's linked on the sidebar, and I talk about it all the time, but it bears repeating that A1 is one of the best all-around message boards on the net, especially for wrestling. There are a lot of really intelligent, well-rounded posters there, and 21 of them, including myself, participated in voting for this list. The list will be unveiled in increments of 10 until we get to the top 10. Each of the top 10 will get their own entry. Check back every day for the unveiling, and when everything's finished, I'll have a feature on my blog highlighting the entire list.

Be warned though, if you use Google Chrome, you won't be able to view the site. It's beyond my control; the powers that be for whatever reason don't like Google Chrome and have made it incompatible with the browser.

- And finally, the NCAA March Madness brackets were unveiled yesterday. What does that have to do with wrestling? Well, nothing really except that I entered a bracket pool called "Blogs with Brackets", run by Dan Levy of the Sporting Blog. I'm only mentioning this because if I place well, I'm sure I'll get some notoreity for this blog, so root for me to get my picks right!
