ECW to Be Rebranded?

From the A1 Boards, via The Site that Shall Not Be Linked and the WO Newsletter

Apparently, SyFy is unhappy with the ratings for ECW and are in talks with the WWE about rebranding the show. The chatter has gone from turning into a Superstars-type show (Boo!) to just dropping the ECW name and coming up with a new name (Yay!). Nothing is set in stone yet.

My take? I think it's vitally important that there's a third, separate brand with its own identity. ECW functions as the WWE's midcard in essence, although both major brands have been doing a lot better in pushing their own midcard wrestlers (see the big pushes given to Miz, Morrison and Drew MacIntyre lately). Still, it provides a show for the brand new call-ups to get face time without the pressure of having to perform on RAW and a proving ground for guys to carry a World (in-name-only) Championship without holding one of THE Championships.

So I guess it should go without saying that I'm in favor of the "change-the-name-only" option, right? Exactly. Besides, this might actually get the stubborn asses who refused to watch ECW (which I feel has been the best episodic wrestling TV show of the year) just because it wasn't the old ECW.

Also, 1.0 ratings at 10 PM on Tuesday night for a company's C-show actually are pretty good, so I think SyFy is being a bit unrealistic. Imagine if Spike had the kind of impatience that SyFy had. TNA would be boned.
