GOOD GOD NOT ANOTHER NXT UPDATE

This one comes from sources close to Bryan Danielson... errr Daniel Bryan. Here are a few tidbits of information that make the project sound a lot more appetizing on the whole and encouraging should it fail:

- Danielson is the only one with a full contract; everyone else including Low Ki/Kaval has a developmental deal, so if this thing goes tits up, Danielson/Bryan will most likely be safe, especially given his connections.

- They're not just going to be sending the Finlays and Regals of the world. According to BD, Chris Jericho, CM Punk, MVP, The Miz and Shawn Michaels look to be the guys being paired off with the rooks. Un.Be.Liev.A.Ble. It looks like they're dead serious about this concept, but I'm wondering how it'll interplay with the mentors' regular schedules, seeing that they're not going to interrupt HBK's, Punk's or Jericho's WM programs just for a C-show.

The interesting thing about all this is that Ki and Danielson have been wrestling longer than some of the guys mentioned as potential mentors. Having Miz mentor Danielson with half of the experience time would be lulzworthy from a "smark" standpoint, as would Punk being a mentor, given that the two were contemporaries in ROH. However, the interplay would be good regardless. If Michaels is definitely involved, I can almost guarantee he'd be Danielson's mentor, just for the full-circle thing.

The more I hear about this, the better I feel about it going forward.

  1. With the pairings announced, my thoughts are as such:

Michaels would have been nice as a pro, but I see him as a 'special guest trainer' or what have you, instead.
Ki, and the two legacies are involved yet, but there will inevitably be a second season, a new glass after people graduate, that sort of thing.

Barrett is being set-up as a tough heel (and possible muscle for Jericho's mouth).
Gabriel with Hardy makes me think they want to go flashy face with Gabriel. I can also see him being a bit of an insufferable prick type personality.
Are they going to feed Carlito to Tarver sooner then later? I think so.
MVP and Sheffield is an interesting spin... Sheffield as a face with a mentor in MVP and a fun mix of big city and big country.
Christian will probably look to give cred to Slater as what sounds intially as a latter day posing for the cameras Canadian Blondes kind of look and personality.
Darren Young with CM Punk makes me think they want to create an up and coming face personality quick by giving him WWE's premiere heel as a mentor, an idea of showing the audience everything that Young isn't and Young will eventually toss Punk around for a rub.
The Miz with AmDrag? Don't laugh, I think this is one of the stronger pairings. The Miz has a TON of momentum behind him, is nailing is promos lately, and will have immediate storylines in what I can see as a dispute over "more experience" with Daniel Brian. While also helping establish a personality for the AmDrag. Whether they'll use it to spin Brian as a face or heel is yet to be seen.
Otunga and R-Truth are going to be fast friends. Jennifer Hudson and Truth duet? Anything is possible.

  2. The Miz is only just learning himself, he shouldnt be mentoring anyone. The guy above me said That Miz is "nailing promos LATELY" hes cut about 2 or 3 half decent promos and 1 good one. If they have to use Danielson on this Tough Enough rehash they could at least find a more experienced wrestler to help him.

  3. It's only 'help' in an entirely scripted sense though, don't forget that. Miz is going to be helped by Danielson just as much as Danielson is going to be helped by the show, I imagine.

  4. You think all these guys are going to end up feuding with their mentor? I'll be surprised if we ever see most of these guys again after this show tanks in the ratings. To me, this concept is a surefire loser.
