Hey, Remember That Rumor about DR Retiring to Become a Firefighter?

Richards getting ready to kick Roderick StrongVia Scripps News Service

Alex Marvez posted a column about Davey Richards today where Richards talks about his decision to retire after Final Battle and become a firefighter. I had heard this rumor before, but apparently, it was confirmed at some point. Weird, you'd think someone other than Chikara101 message board posters would have picked up on it.

Anyway, I'd say he was getting out while the getting was good, but firefighting? I mean, that's not exactly the safest business ever. That's like jumping from the frying pan into the fire, literally. (HURR SEE WHAT I DID THAR?) Sucks for ROH, but hey, maybe this will finally light the fire under their asses to push Delirious or El Generico or Kevin Steen to the main event level, or to more aggressively scout Chikara for talent, right? Yeah, right.

I still think he's overrated, btw.

  1. Good for him. Wrestling's a scummy business that destroys people. He's doing something positive with his life and getting out while he's able.

  2. You tell him that as he carries you out of a burning building.

"I know you're saving my life right now, but you know you're overrated, right?"

  3. Hey, it's great that he's retiring to do something constructive. I'm not blasting that decision at all. I'm just saying, the danger level's still high.

I'll be sure to tell him he's overrated if he's ever carrying me out of a burning building in Washington state though :p

  4. He's not just 'being a firefighter', he's also going to be going to become a paramedic. he wants to make a difference and not just beat his body up for the rest of his life. He's smarter than most, the ones who don't know when to leave and have absolutely nothing else to fall back on. I would rather see him leave and do something with his life then keep doing something that hasn't made him happy for a long time.
