William Regal to Retire

Hail to the King (of the Ring), Baby!

At a house show last night in London, William Regal announced to the crowd that he was on his own last tour of Europe and would be retiring soon. I can't say I blame the guy - he's 42 and has worked a very demanding style for most of his career. However, I think that the WWE and the world of wrestling on the whole is going to miss Regal's in-ring mastery. Make no mistake about it, even though he hasn't always been my cup of tea, you can't deny that Regal is one of the best wrestlers in the world even now in his 40s. The guy has made such a mark both with his own matches and with the guys he's trained, most notably Bryan Danielson.

However, because he's retiring from the rigors of the every day wrestling schedule, that doesn't mean he's going away completely. He's recently signed a deal with WWE that'll keep him under contract until he's 46. What does that mean if he's not going to wrestle full-time anymore? Well, he's going to be a road agent. I can't think of anyone on the roster right now more suited to being a road agent than Regal. Plus, I'm sure he'll pop up on screen for various one-off non-wrestling roles or maybe even a recurring GM character. He has experience.

Anyway, here's the Youtube of his announcement gotten by a fan in attendance for it. Godspeed Mr. Regal, and thanks for the memories!
