Excellent Blog on What You Should Do If You Want to Be a Wrestler

Via Don't Be a Slater Hater

Damian Slater, an Australian independent pro wrestler, wrote a blog on his Tumblr page about what ticks him off about wrestling and the state of wrestling in general. He also offered up advice for anyone who wanted to get into the business. It's a very, very good read, and I agree with a lot of what's in it. Presentation is so key in the business nowadays, and there are a lot of bush-league feds out there that don't have that presentation, which in turn turns people off of wrestling, especially in foreign markets such as Australia. There is one thing in here that I thought was poignant above all other points this guy made:
I also can’t fathom the fact that you would want to wrestle unless you are doing this to become successful, or are at least wrestling in a respectable company. I honestly don’t see how wrestling a fat guy in a wifebeater infront of 30 people can be fun in the slightest. Don’t you have better things to do with your time?
Bingo. Austin Aries has been going on about this on his Facebook page, and it makes sense. Sure, these guys wrestle because they love it, but if you're not in the business to make money, then why are you in it? Surely, you don't take flatback bumps night in and night out just because you like the idea of being a pro wrestler or love the business. I love wrestling, but fuck, if I were going to be a wrestler, after the proper training (which costs money), I wouldn't want to risk being a cripple in my twilight years just for the love of the game.

Anyway, take time to read this. Seriously.
