If Bieber Hosts WrestleMania and You Riot, You're a Dork

Last night at the Grammy Awards, Justin Bieber, the teenage Youtube singing sensation, was up for Best New Artist, and did not win. This sent his fanbase into a rage, mainly because he lost out to a relatively unknown jazz artist Esperanza Spalding. Well, if that wasn't enough, he might send another fanbase into a rage tonight.

Yes, tonight, Vince McMahon will announce the host for WrestleMania, and there are a ton of names being floated around. Dwayne Johnson's Facebook page is teaseworthy today. Steve Austin, Brock Lesnar and Bob Barker have also been floated around as potential names. The Wrestling Voice blog postulated that it could be Vince McMahon himself in a total move of ultimate heel dickfacery. However, the worst-case scenario for all fans involved would be Bieber. His name's been floated around for a WrestleMania appearance. I'm guessing that it's for singing "America the Beautiful", but what if it's for the unthinkable?

Honestly, it really wouldn't faze me at all. Tell me, would you REALLY boycott WrestleMania, the biggest event of the year, just because a teenager who sings songs you don't personally like is going to be on for a half-hour of run time, tops, ESPECIALLY if in your heart of hearts, you knew he wouldn't figure directly into the outcome of any matches? If that's truly the case, then I have to question your wrestling fandom. Seriously. It's one thing to boycott WrestleMania because you don't want to see Miz get crushed by John Cena, or if, for some ungodly reason, you don't like Alberto del Rio. But because Justin Bieber is going to be on the show for a few segments? Get the fuck out of here.

Look, I'm not a fan of the kid's music, and there are about 30,000 people I'd rather see hosting WrestleMania than him. But just because he doesn't appeal to your crowd, you gotta pile the hate on him? I'm not buying that. I mean, to keep it on the Grammies, I bet a bunch of the people hating on Bieber potentially hosting WrestleMania are the same people who were wondering why all these people were hating on Arcade Fire winning album of the year. Everyone has different tastes. This is just McMahon trying to tap into a new demographic. Of course, I think that he's going about it the wrong way, and any new viewers he gets with Bieber won't stick once he doesn't stick with the product, but that's another post for another time.

But seriously, y'all are gonna need to chill with the hate if Bieber is indeed the host announced in about an hour or so. It's not the best choice, but seriously, it's not one that should make you want to skip WrestleMania this year. Unless you really, really are anal retentive about that kind of thing.
