Mark Smith, who wrestled under the name Bison Smith, has died due to heart failure in Puerto Rico. He was only 38 years old. Smith got his start in wrestling after playing football for the University of Colorado. He started in the Northern California APW promotion before latching on overseas in Japan. He wrestled in the match where Mitsuharu Misawa passed away. He has also worked stateside for ROH.
He was in Puerto Rico on a tour. News of his death was first broken by WWC (Carlos Colon's promotion), then by Epico (who is Colon's nephew). My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Smith, who has left this world far too soon. Even as someone who really wasn't all that familiar with Smith outside of his Art of Wrestling interview, this has blindsided me. RIP Bison Smith.
