Funk's Last (LOL) Match Brings About All Kinds of Burns

Will he ever retire? Who cares, he's awesome.

Stop me if you've heard this one before; Terry Funk wrestled a retirement match this past weekend. Yes, an announcement of retirement from the Ol' Funker is about as good as one from the band KISS, and even though he stands at the ripe, young age of 71, it's hard to imagine him not as an active wrestler anymore. However, he did make a promise to retire, and he did so against Jerry Lawler. The King made a Memphis-style threat to Funk on Twitter, which brought out the zinger from Big Dave Meltzer of all people in reply:

If this had happened at Meltzer's new favorite hangout, the American Legion post in Reseda, CA, the entire arena would have been chanting "YOU GOT SERVED, YOU GOT SERVED!" at Lawler. Meltzer doesn't strike me as the coolest guy in the room, but even blind squirrels find a nut every once in awhile. And boy, was that nut meaty. It's hard to carry on Tweeting after such a burn as magnificent as that, but figurative burns were not the only fire being played with in conjunction with this match:

Jerry Lawler, age 65, threw a fireball in the face of Terry Funk, age 71. If that doesn't convince you that wrestling is the greatest thing in the history of the world of sport or entertainment or reality, I'm not sure what else I can present to you.
