Know Your Indie Wrestlers: Sara del Rey

Death Rey

Who?: Sara del Rey
Promotions: SHIMMER, ROH, Chikara, JAPW
Alias: Death Rey
Current Affiliations: In ROH, she's affiliated with the Kings of Wrestling (yay!) and Shane Hagadorn (boo!). In Chikara, she's a member of the Bruderschaft des Kreuzes.

Height: 5'9"
Weight: 151 lbs.
Hometown: Martinez, CA

After the jump... Wrestling Style: ChikaraPro.com describes her as a Joshi-styled heavyweight. After seeing the way she manhandled the Osirian Portal at A Touch of Class, I can agree with that, although she has some nice mat skills and relies more on her strikes to get by

Signature Maneuvers:

Top 10, right here, including the Hip Press and Royal Butterfly

She also does a mean piledriver. I can't find footage right now without scouring YouTube, but take my word for it.

Titles Held:
SHIMMER World Championship
JAPW Women's Championship (current)
ROH World Intergender Tag Team Championship (with Chris Hero)

Promos:

w/ Daizee Haze last year before they were revealed as BDK

Candidly speaking for ROH

Why You Should Know Sara del Rey: With apologies to the once-again indie Awesome Kong, Daizee Haze and MsChif, Sara del Rey is perhaps the most visible woman in all indie wrestling, and for good reason. She's among the best women wrestlers in the country. She doesn't do flips, flips and more flips like some of her contemporaries, but her style gives her a certain credibility that puts her in a class with those such as Kong, Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Tara and Angelina Love.

As a wrestler, she does it all. She wrestles in all-women feds like the critically acclaimed SHIMMER Women Athletes based out in Chicago, women's divisions like those found in JAPW (where she's Champ) and even against men like she and Daizee Haze are doing in Chikara. It especially works in Chikara because del Rey is as big as wrestlers such as the Osirian Portal (whom they worked a great match with at the Chikara season premiere), the Colony, Incoherence, Cheech and Cloudy and several other of the undersized lucha wizards in the fed.

She's also great as a new generation-type valet. While she's got her own attractiveness about her, she won't be confused with Trish Stratus, Miss Elizabeth or Rayna Von Tosh. That's okay though, because she can do what most women who turn out to be valets can't - intimidate male wrestlers. She's definitely earned her ubiquity, and hopefully, she'll get her due and get a nice payday some day from either the WWE or TNA. Even if she doesn't, she'll be a fixture in the indie scene because she's rightfully in demand.
