Know Your Indie Wrestlers: The Colony

The Ants of Chikara

Who?: The Colony: Fire Ant, Soldier Ant and Green Ant
Promotions: Chikara
Alias: Energetic Insectoid Grappler (Fire), Militant Mat Mite (Soldier), Resilient Rookie (Green)
Current Affiliations: With each other, obviously. Loosely banded with the other tecnicos as well as the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple in the fight against the BDK

Height: 5'7", 5'8" and 6'2" (Fire, Soldier and Green respectively)
Weight: 166 lbs., 162 lbs. and 182 lbs. respectively
Hometown: The Ant Hill

After the jump... Wrestling Style: All three use a lucharesu-based high-flying moveset with a lot of leaps and dives, some submissions and a good bit of head-dropping. Soldier Ant salutes before every big move. Soldier and Fire are the most similar to each other. Green Ant seems to be more of a mat wrestler than his more spot-based partners. As a unit, their unique and innovative double- and triple-team offense is among the best in all wrestling.

Signature Maneuvers:

Top 10 Moves of the Colony

Titles Held:

CHIKARA Campeonatos de Parejas (Fire and Soldier)
CHIKARA Young Lions Cup (Fire)

Promos:

Before a six-man tag against the BDK, mainly focused against infiltrator Pinkie Sanchez

Soldier Ant really doesn't talk that much outside of saying "Sir, yes sir!", but here's a fun segment where former YLC Champs try to pep him up before his opportunity to nab the mantel from Tim Donst on May 23rd:

Not really a promo, but fun regardless:

Why You Should Know The Colony: Even moreso than Mike Quackenbush, the Colony has become the tecnico face of Chikara. Over the three-plus years they've been wrestling for the company, they've wowed crowds and earned support like scant few trios/teams on the roster ever have. Their cohesion and familiarity with each other, even with the relatively new Green Ant, makes their double- and triple-team offense an absolute treat to watch.

Not only are they among the best workers in the company and up-and-comers in the indie scene on the whole, they do the little things so well. For example, in their match against Team Osaka Pro at Night 3 of King of Trios, a fan handed Soldier Ant a bag of sugar, to which he and his teammates huddled around and treated like it was gold. Later on in the match, one of the Osaka Pro guys was working over the antennae on Fire Ant's mask, and he sold it too. I've always admired wrestlers who didn't take their craft too seriously, but didn't disrespect it enough to make the match lose gravity, and things like that are right in my wheelhouse.

The Colony are the supreme fan-favorites, appealing to everyone from children to adults (with the exception of blog-fan Sean Williams, who HATES them for whatever reason), and they'll remain that way for as long as Chikara will have them. If you go to a Chikara show, and I guarantee whatever match or matches these guys are in will be ridiculously enjoyable.
