Weekend Wrap-Up: EVOLVE and Not a Whole Hell of a Lot Else

One half of EVOLVE's main event- EVOLVE ran its third show Saturday in Rahway, featuring Chuck Taylor defeating Claudio Castagnoli in the main event of the show, which was selected by fans via a poll on the website. Judging from the F4W review of the show, it was a really good card. Too bad only 150 people max attended judging from some of the reports. Ouch. I bought EVOLVE 1 at King of Trios, and I'm really looking forward to viewing it, but given the caliber of workers involved, I'm not worried about being disappointed.

- Jim Ross' contract ran out on Friday, although he remains with WWE for the time being in the front office. The word on the street is that he still wants to broadcast, and well, given the state of announcing - Michael Cole is announcing two shows, and Todd Grisham, although performing admirably in my eyes, is not impressing VKM - you'd think McMahon would be chomping at the bit to get him back, right? Yeah, I'm baffled too. The hot rumor has Ross going to HDNet to call MMA (and by Internet rumor-mongering standards, ROH as well because ZOMG THEIR ON TEH SAME NETWORK!!!11). Given that Ross likes to comment on MMA as much as he does pro wrestling and football, it's not hard to see him transitioning smoothly into 'rasslin's "real" counterpart. I still hold out hope that Ross will come back to RAW, because RAW needs him so bad, but hey, if Ross ain't happy working for Vince, then he ain't happy.

- Not news or a wrestling card, but friend of the blog Justin Henry wrote this humorous little piece imagining what it'd be like if he sat down to dinner with Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler and Matt Striker.
