Help Out This ECW Documentary Kickstarter

Extreme Championship Wrestling's history is well-documented and its influence reaches far on the landscape of American professional wrestling. A lot of the furor surrounding it nowadays often revolves around digging up the corpse and trying to get one last spark of life out of it via a reunion card or a return of someone who shouldn't be out in public let alone in the ring. The best way to remember the company is by actually remembering it, by talking about it and looking at the footage, hearing the guys reminisce rather than see them hang on for too long.

Luckily, documentarians Kevin Kiernan and John Philapavage are currently working on a project that will do the promotion justice. They have been working on a documentary about ECW for 12 years, since the promotion was still open. They have interviews with the seminal players like Shane Douglas, Raven and New Jack. They have fan perspective. They have points of view from journalists like Dave Meltzer and Michael Tearson. They even have perspective from the late Frank Talent. The thing that has been keeping this project from getting made is obviously money.

As with any indie project that needs funds, they have a Kickstarter page. It's basically a matter of licensing. They need cash to cover all the songs they use, and with all the popular music ECW used for theme songs, those fees will be pricey. Right now, they're about 20 percent of the way to their goal. They need help. As with any Kickstarter/IndieGogo project, there's swag involved for people who donate. The different donor levels are listed on the project page. There are some cool rewards there, but of course, the main thing is to support this great documentary.

Wrestling companies spend so much time trying to defibrillate ECW's corpse. Now it's about time we appreciated the company for what it was. Please donate.
