Wrestling Six Packs: Marquee John Cena WrestleMania Matches

Could this happen again, at WrestleMania even?

I've got a confession, guys. I miss John Cena. I don't miss the preacher voice or the cartoony sing-song bullshit. But at times as a character, he brought the necessary gravitas, and he almost always was the real deal in the ring. Thankfully, he'll be back in time for WrestleMania, where he will undoubtedly have a marquee match. For some of the hardcore fan ilk, that means having him put over a line of unending up-and-comers who "need a victory." But really, when you have a guy like John Cena, a legitimate star who is still bonkers over with every part of the crowd, why would you use every Mania match for him to pass the torch? Shouldn't that action only happen once? He was made to wrestle in huge, larger-than-life matches, and I've got six that might fit the bill in the near or far future.

1. Undertaker

Ryback can challenge the Streak. So can Brock Lesnar, CM Punk (again), Kane (again), Daniel Bryan, the Shield, the Wyatt Family, or any wrestler who catches fire between now and WrestleMania, XXX or otherwise. But really, the only match left in the Streak that NEEDS to happen is Undertaker vs. John Cena. Taker's felled a lot of different monsters, but he's never taken down the biggest star in the company with his Mania match. And who knows, would Cena be the one to end the Streak? I know that might cause a riot in some corners of Twitter, but hey, WWE doesn't book for us.

2. Sheamus

Sheamus is about as close to being a titan, a larger-than-life hero figure in the vein of Cena in WWE right now. While I wouldn't put Cena and Sheamus in the same ring at Mania XXX, the match could be on the table as soon as XXXI or XXXII. Both guys are great big match workers, know how to partake in the art of clubberin', and they know how to win crowds regardless of their character circumstance. Sheamus, for better or worse, is a part of WWE's future, and that future comes with clashes with Cena, clashes that are definitely going to be Mania caliber.

3. Kurt Angle

I'm not really enamored with the trainwreck that Angle has become, but when he finally returns to WWE, he's going to be a big deal. I doubt he comes back just to do the current Chris Jericho/Rob van Dam deal where he jobs to up and comers. Plus, he and Cena have history. When Cena was coming up, Angle was the BAMF on campus. Cena stepped to him in his first appearance. Even if Angle might be the one opponent Cena would have trouble dragging a decent match out of, the synergy would be off the charts at least.

4. Floyd Mayweather

Mayweather is rumored to be open to another WrestleMania appearance, and as much as his feud and match with Big Show were entertaining, wouldn't the biggest pay-per-view draw of the last decade go up against the WWE's Franchise be the best option? The build towards this match might be a bit preacher-voicy and all, but Mayweather's one of the premier showmen not working in pro wrestling, while Cena is a consummate professional. The hype would be real, and the end product might weirdly end up satisfying the anticipation.

5. Vince McMahon

I think they're building towards some kind of beef between the two, not-so-subtly hinting towards it before SummerSlam. Of course, this match is the one with the shortest shelf-life left, because if Undertaker is ready to retire soon, McMahon is waiting for his final match to present itself. Triple H is ready to assume the authority-figure-ready-to-fight-his-rivals role, but they've already presented Trips vs. Cena a bunch of times. If McMahon's going out, his final opponent should be the last megastar who came up under his sole watch.

6. Daniel Bryan

Their SummerSlam match was fantastic, and I feel the stage of WrestleMania would only serve to amplify their natural chemistry together. Bryan looks to be the next face of WWE, the next megastar, so maybe he'll enter into the role filled by Cena in a few years against Cena's assumption of The Rock's role against himself. Maybe this tilt happens at Mania XXX as closure for their mini feud from the SummerSlam build. All I know is barring catastrophe, this match will happen, and it also certainly should.
