The 2019 TWB 100: Introduction and Call for Ballots

Johnny Gargano was last year's number one. Can he repeat?

It's time, once again! The 2019 TWB 100 is upon the world! This will be the 11th edition of the rankings. What is the TWB 100? Well, it's a fan-voted, crowd-sourced, open-participation that attempts to rank wrestlers from around the globe based on their in-ring work only. It’s not based on promos. It’s not based on character development. It’s not based on booking. It sure as hell ain’t based on Twitter, or else Malcolm Bivens would win in a walk. It’s based on the matches, stupid.

Participation is open to anyone who wants to submit a ballot with a few exceptions. If you have to ask if you’re banned, you probably are. The following will list all the criteria, so read carefully before submitting a ballot:
  • The TWB 100 is based solely on a wrestler’s performance between the bells in any wrestling contest. This includes move variety, execution, workrate, selling, bumping, timing, pacing, protecting the opponent, trash-talking and anything else that happens within the course of a wrestling match. Anything that happens in promos or segments outside the confines of a wrestling match should NOT be considered for ballot entries. It is also advised against using match booking in deciding placement on the ballot (i.e. don’t use “well he/she wins too much” as rationale against their placement).
  • Content to be considered for ballots must have taken place between 1/1/19 at 12:00:00 AM to 12/31/19 at 11:59:59 PM inclusive, i.e. within the calendar year of 2019.
  • Starting this year, there are no restrictions on country of origin. That means every wrestler in every promotion on planet Earth are eligible for ranking for all their work in any promotion based on Earth. Hell, if you went to an indie show on Tonga and saw a wrestler you liked, rank 'em!
  • Ballots shall have a minimum of 25 wrestlers named in order and a maximum of 100 wrestlers named in order. Ballots between those two numbers inclusive will be accepted with no questions, as long as they are ranked in order. Ballots with 24 or fewer and unordered ballots will be thrown out. Ballots with 101 or more will be pared down to 100.
  • No classification shall exist among wrestlers of any of the many genders. For the purposes of this ballot, anyone who wrestled in an eligible promotion for the time period given shall be considered eligible regardless of race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, size, weight class, or even species (much like leader of The Crucible, Ophidian, who is actually a cobra).
  • If you want to list a tag team, you must list the individual members and NOT the unit. So, if you want to include the Ugly Ducklings, vote for Rob Killjoy and Lance Lude as separate entries on your list, not “Ugly Ducklings” as one entry. All entries for a stable or tag team will be ignored on said ballot (or at the very least, I will e-mail you for clarification).
  • No eligibility requirements for submission of a ballot are in place. As long as the submitter likes and has watched wrestling in 2019, they’re allowed to submit unless explicitly prohibited by TH. The list of people not allowed to vote is short and won’t be publicized, but if you attempt to vote and are on my banned list, I will inform you privately.
  • Ballots can be sent to me, TH, via any means necessary, either through e-mail (tom DOT holzerman AT gmail DOT com), Facebook messages, written letter (for those who know my address), Twitter DM, carrier pigeon, note written on a brick thrown through my front window*, or any other means of private communication.
  • The due date for ballots will be Wednesday, January 22 at 11:59:59 local time, which is to say, if you have your ballot to me by the time I wake up on Thursday, January 23, you should be good.
  • This year, scoring will change from a 100–99–98…1 point system to a weighted system towards 1st place votes. I.E., first place votes will now be worth 125 points, second place 110, third place 105, fourth place 100, and fifth place 98. Sixth place votes and below will retain their value from years’ past.
  • The final list will be staggered as in years past when presented here on TWB.
  • Also, I will be soliciting blurbs again, hooray!
  • All ballots will be subject to scrutiny by TH.
And there you have it. Now that you have the information, get to ranking!
