Intro to Chikara
Why You Should Know Sugar: Sugar Dunkerton in relatively short time has won over Chikara crowds big-time. He had a leg up by teaming with the ultra-popular and ultra-awesome Dasher Hatfield, but he's proven that he's on the same level as his Turn of the Century baseballer partner. Much like Dasher, his showmanship is impeccable. He's been a perfect fit in Chikara, and the crowds have responded to him as such.
However, he's ambitious. He wants to branch out, improve, do a lot of different styles in different feds. He's got a great base to build from. What I've seen from in Chikara, I've liked, and I think that even though he has shortcomings, he's doing his best to improve on them. Right now, the best thing going in the indies for me is the feud between the Roughnecks and Throwbacks. A lot of that is due to how much both Dasher and especially Sugar are playing up the personal aspects of it. I'm seeing growth right before my eyes at every show, and it's good.
The other feds around the country are taking notice. He won a match in the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup tournament and got a chant in his second round match against Jon Moxley. He's been backstage at ROH tapings, and several other smaller feds on the East Coast are starting to book him. If on the surface all you see is a gimmick, you're taking Sugar Dunkerton WAY too lightly. He's going places, and he'll be one of the big indie stars within a few years. Bank on it.
