Weekend Wrap-Up: The Main Event Jo-Mo Edition

Yo yo yo Maria, I'mma sad that you got future endeavored and all, but Mr. Kennedy was the most surprising future endeavoring of all-time... OF ALL-TIME!

- As reported on here all weekend, the WWE took a hatchet to the roster, cutting five people from their active roster. Gregory Helms, Paul Burchill, Maria Kanellis, Charlie Haas and senior referee Scott Armstrong all felt the impending sword of doom lop their WWE careers in twain. What does this mean? Well, nothing right now, except to show that no one is safe. Burchill and Haas are hardly surprising except for the timing. Helms isn't surprising at all given his bitching about wanting to be released and then his subsequent arrest and getting Chris Jericho arrested as well. Armstrong seems like an incongruous firing, unless they didn't feel like paying a tenured ref money just to count during matches and be the part of an angle every five years. Maria's is the most surprising because she ostensibly had a lot to give the company. She was giving the fed exposure through being on Celebrity Apprentice, and she just won Diva of the Year two months ago, showing she was still pretty over with the WWE fans.

- In happier WWE news, Smackdown had a house show in Tyler, TX over the weekend. I know, I know, you're thinking who gives a shit about house shows, but there was a kernel of information to come out of it. John Morrison actually got his first house show main event, teaming with Edge against Chris Jericho and CM Punk. Could this be a sign of things to come? I know at least one blog reader who thinks "Please God no", but most other people, myself included, are salivating at the prospect of Morrison being the newest addition to Smackdown's main event scene.

- Chikara made their return to Schuylkill County, PA yesterday with A World of Comforting Illusions, which saw the Colony retain their Campeonatos de Parejas over UltraMantis Black and Delirious. The day before, they returned to Reading, PA with The Mint Condition, which saw the BDK suffer their first defeat as a unit, albeit by DQ, in a trios match against the full Colony (Fire, Soldier and Green). I haven't found a detailed write-up of the events, so I can't tell you how well they were received, but hey, it's Chikara. It's hard for them to produce an unentertaining show.
