Something to Prove: Beyond Wrestling Armory Amore Preview

Veda Scott will be wrestling Robert Evans this weekend. This isn't a dark match for Ring of Honor, nor is it Scott taking on the Mysterious and Handsome Stranger at a Chikara event (although the latter of those two would be so goddamn awesome it would make my head spin). This is for real happening as a marquee match at Beyond Wrestling's Armory Amore, Sunday at the Varnum Memorial Armory in East Greenwich, RI with a 5PM belltime. To some, that isn't a big deal. To those in the know, it's a huge matchup and a great signpost for how much Scott has come along in her year-and-a-half or so of active duty in the pro wrestling industry.

Scott has made a lot of waves in a short amount of time, going from the ROH Wrestle Academy to travelling around the country, wrestling for outfits like Beyond, SHIMMER, Absolute Intense Wrestling and Anarchy Championship Wrestling. Additionally, she'll be making her first tour of Japan soon. Big things are happening for her, but she still has a lot to prove. Evans is the perfect opponent for her, mainly because it seems like he has a lot to prove as well.

The thing is, Evans shouldn't have anything to prove. Chikara fans know he's the goods as Archibald Peck, even though, well, you know. I fear I may have put my life in danger by saying anything at all, but c'mon, EVERYONE CAN SEE IT. ACW fans know it too, but the most visible outlet that Evans works for, ROH, seems content to leave him as a bit player in a tired stable. It makes me wonder whether people give him the respect he deserves.

Then again, Beyond Wrestling is all about giving people the chance to earn respect. Scott has the opportunity to show that she's more than just a fashion trendsetter in the wrestling business. Evans gets to prove again that he's not only quick with his wit and his physical comedy, but that hey, he can wrestle too. Beyond itself has a lot to prove as a company. Right now, they're in a great position to do that with their purchase of Women's Superstars Uncensored.

Speaking of which, they will have a WSU showcase match at this card as well, as the hardest working wrestler today, Portia Perez, will do battle with Lexus. One of my favorite parts of Beyond to date, Drew Gulak, also will compete against Eric Corvis, formerly known as Corvis Fear. TJ Marconi and Darius Carter continue their long-running feud as they will each choose mystery tag team partners to do battle. Also appearing of note will be AR Fox, Pinkie Sanchez, Steve "the Turtle" Weiner and Anthony Stone.

However, if any match draws you into Rhode Island for this card, it should be Scott/Evans. They may seem like they have a lot to prove, but after this match – and the entire card in general – I get the feeling those in attendance won't need much more persuading to give them and Beyond high marks.
